I love fungi since I was a kid and have been really interested in slime moulds after reading about them solving mazes and mapping road networks.

I came across this post on Sage Jenson’s site where he had made a diagram explaining his implementation based on a paper by Jeff Jones.

I made my implementation (that is running live above) based on the rules in Sage’s diagram below.

Take a look at Sage’s site and his other experiments, they’re really cool. I love the infected/contagion versions that he made.

The slime mould simulation is such an addictive thing to play round with and like the cellular automata you can get drastically different results with relatively small changes to the settings.

I’d like to make a version of this that people can dynamically adjust the values of without going into the code. I’d also love to do some collaboration with Nicolette and bringing sound to it.
